Abreak-in at a Roanoke Rapids business Sunday could be connectedwith a string of break-ins going back into September, RoanokeRapids police are saying.
Det.Sgt. Jeff Baggett said at 6:10 a.m. Sunday, Officer Lee Mason wason patrol in the 1100 block of Julian Allsbrook Highway when henoticed a business there, Hip Hop City, had been broken into.
“(Thethieves) had made entry by throwing a piece of asphalt through afront window,” Baggett said.
Clothing and jewelry were taken, including Levi’s jeans, Brand 8shirts and pants, Parish shirts and pants, Coogi pants and shirtsand various athletic teams’ hats, Baggett said. he added severalnecklaces and watches were taken, with the total value of thestolen merchandise reaching $18,074.
Videocameras at the scene captured images of the suspects and indicatedthe crime occurred around 4 a.m., Baggett said.
Thecrime, Baggett said, may be related to a rash of break-ins inbusinesses throughout the city, including many on East 10th Streetand Becker Drive, which began in September, with three businessessuffering break-ins and thefts on Sept. 24 alone.
“Webelieve this break-in could be related to those,” Baggett said.“And to an attempted breaking and entering at Bass and BucksTuesday morning. We’re still investigating.”
