Oireachtas na Samhna, a celebration of Irish language and culture, attracted more than 10,000 competitors and visitors to the town from Wednesday to Sunday last, a late season boost that injected an estimated €5.5 million to the local economy.

Maurice Oliphant, an artist and native of Ballyclare, plans to host a free exhibition later this week. The first showing for the artist in several years will take place at the Sixmile Leisure Centre on Friday, October 21, and Saturday October 22. A selection of Oliphant’s oil paintings, of subjects from horses to classic cars, will be on display. The painter has completed many commissioned works, including one which hangs in the Belfast headquarters of Harland and Wolff.
