The 7th annual Moberly Railroad Days is set for June 8 through June 11 in Downtown Moberly. as in years past, a carnival along with stage entertainment, social events and contests pack this year’s schedule, according to Chamber Director, Debbie Miller. The Magic City Express Mini Train located by the Red Caboose will also be available for rides as well. Carnival arm bands will be available each evening from 6 until 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. These will allow unlimited rides for participants. Individual ride tickets may also be purchased. Stage Entertainment includes Karaoke on Wednesday evening sponsored by Moberly Parks and Recreation and the band Keota from Macon on Thursday evening. on Friday evening, the band Next of Ken will play from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., with the Fender Benders taking the stage at 8:30 p.m. The Moberly Eagles Club will operate the beer and wine garden opening each evening at 4:30 p.m. Saturday is a full day of events beginning with the Railroad Days Baby show at 9 a.m. This event is sponsored by Main Street Moberly. Registration will start at 8 a.m. or you can pre-register your child at the Moberly Main Street Office at 220 W. Reed St. or the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce office at 211 W. Reed St. Entry forms are also available online at www.moberlychamber.com. there will also be a 5 K run/walk sponsored by the Randolph Area YMCA to benefit the Strong Kids Program. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in front of the Chamber office with a start of 9 a.m. Race forms may also be obtained online at www.moberlychamber.com. The tiny and Little Mr. and miss Railroad Days contest for ages 3 through 5 will follow the baby show on the Main Stage at 11 a.m. This event is sponsored by Moberly Altrusa Club. Registration will start at 10 a.m., or people can pre-register at the Chamber office at 211 W. Reed St. Entry forms are also available online at www.moberlychamber.com. The Randolph County Historical Society Ice Cream Social will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Railroad Museum. The museum will also be open all day on Saturday and will be selling railroad items as well. Moberly Area Community College’s Art on The Block event will also take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the intersection of College and Rollins streets in front of the main MACC building. Hands-on activities include creating a community poetry wall, exploring and making musical instruments, creating recycled art sculptures and tape sculptures, making silk-screens, creating graffiti art, working with clay, and tie-dying. Music, food, clowns and magicians will add to the enjoyment. Additionally, the Graphic Arts/Fine Arts Gallery will have an art exhibit. This event is free and open to the public. all activities are free with the exception of a nominal charge for some projects. Stage entertainment on Saturday begins at 1 p.m. with the Farnum Family Band from Galina, Mo. Consisting of Mom Trish and Dad Norm and their six children, the Farnum Family has performed in the Branson area and around the country for several years now. Their blend of bluegrass, gospel, old-time and Western music has delighted audiences everywhere. Immediately following at 3 p.m., the band Ironweed from Columbia takes the stage with the finest in bluegrass, vintage country and good ol’ hillbilly twang. From Jimmy Martin to Hazel Dickens, you can expect a bucketful of tunes about trains, moonshine, dirt, heartaches, pigs, corn and girls named Sophronie. The ever popular Sycamore Queen Contest will be held at 6 p.m. on the Main Stage and promises to be very entertaining as always. Men donning “fancy attire” will be raising money for their favorite charity or organization while being judged on stage presence, question and answer and other criteria. Celebrity judges will be on hand to do their job of picking the 2011 Sycamore Queen. Final entertainment of the event will be the Kansas City Street Band, a favorite group of this area. The band delights audiences everywhere, playing the “in the Pocket Grooves,” “Hard Driving Blues Shuffles,” “Danceable Upbeat Funk” and some of the best ballads this side of heaven. The Beer and Wine Garden operated by The Moberly Eagles Club will be open from 3 p.m. until midnight on Saturday. This annual event is co-sponsored by the Moberly Rotary Club, the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce and the Moberly Tourism Council.
