Thanks for taking the time to write a review on what is sure to be a popular and controversial film. one thing I have noticed is all the publicity for “Rise Of the Planet Of the Apes” is leaving out one big fact: “Rise” is a reworking of “Conquest Of the Planet Of the Apes”, not “Planet of the Apes”. why is this happening? “Conquest” stirred up enough of a hornet’s nest when it was first released in 1972, hence the changed ending to the film. Today’s so-called “sophisticated audience” who can’t seem to appreciate anything which isn’t CGI driven action wouldn’t get the socio-political message of “Conquest” which is one of the many reasons why ‘Rise” will be action oriented and a letdown for fans of the original series of five Apes films (which overall are still great). “Conquest”, despite its low budget, was brimming with subtext (racism, fascism, slavery, etc.) and a killer ending speech by Roddy McDowell. each Apes sequel was a new story and not a rehash….all we can do today is “ape” what was done much better years ago.

Hey guys, guess what movie you’re getting dragged to next Valentine’s Day. we can already feel our testicles shriveling up inside our bodies.
