Kansas City crews and contractors continued Sunday to battle water main breaks that have proliferated with the excessive heat and extra pressure on the lines.
Dozens of people were without service, Water Services Department officials said, although they did not have a more definite number.
Company to add jobs
Carolina Growler owners Terry Crews and Bill Crisp received some big news last Thursday evening, when they were notified that their company had been awarded a $50,000,000 contract from the Department of Defense to build 800 munitions transport trailers for the Navy. This news comes on the heels of other recent contracts the company has secured in their ongoing effort to diversify.This contract will allow the company to hire 20-30 additional people at their Montgomery County facilities in Star and Ether. Because the company is in a certified Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) the work has to be completed here in the county with at least 35 percent of the employees being county residents. Crews said their goal is to employ at least 50 percent of local employees.
TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) – The Terry Farrell firefighters fund is traveling across the country to donate a piece of steel from the World Trade Center to the San Diego Firehouse Museum. It's in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks.

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – an Ohio man was killed in a fatal crash that occurred in Jasper County Tuesday afternoon between two jackknifed semi tractor trailers. The crash closed the intersection of U.S. 231 at State Road 16 for five hours.
No one was injured during a garage fire Tuesday morning that was put out before causing substantial damage to the attached house, fire officials said.
Orland firefighters were called to a house near Clearview Drive and Terry Drive around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday and found a two-car garage under heavy flames, according to a release from the fire district. fire crews were able to contain the fire to the garage.
Highway 41 construction is nothing new for businesses or motorists in Winnebago County. Crews have been working on a 17-mile stretch from Neenah to Oshkosh since 2009.
But the State Patrol is advising motorists to be aware of possible back-ups during the busy Fourth of July weekend.
