James E. (Jim) Daniels, 86, of Vandalia died Monday, July 4, 10“ at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.Funeral services were Thursday at 11 a.m., at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia with the Rev. Bob Hoehn officiating. Music was provided by Ruth Nation, soloist and Joy Davis, pianist. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vandalia.Visitation was Thursday from 9 a.m., until service time at the funeral home.he was born Nov. 30, 1924 in Vandalia, the son of Marcellus M. and Frances Grace Wetherald Daniels. he married Norma J. Hoffmeyer on may 20, 1944 in Bowling Green. She survives at the home.Other survivors include three daughters, Sherilyn K Bakeman. and husband, Keith of Stockton, Sandra Jean Alldredge and husband, Jerry Alldredge of Windsor, Colo., and Janet R. Ashlock and husband, Bruce of Laddonia; two grandsons, Mark Ashlock and wife, Debbie of O’Fallon and Jared Schlicht of Chicago; one granddaughter, Andrea Joki and husband, Matt of Chicago; a step-grandson, Chad Bakeman and wife, Lisa of Denver, Colo.; three great-granddaughters, Madelynne Rae Ashlock, Taylor and Kenzie Bakeman and great-grandson, Braxton Joki.he was preceded in death by: five brothers: Willard Daniels, Robert Daniels, Rhote Daniels, Martin Daniels and Clarence Daniels; five sisters, Ramona Jerman, Lorene Breeden, Hannah Nuckles, Ruth Price and Gayle Emerson.Jim was a lifelong Vandalia area resident and attended area schools. he was a long-time member of the first Presbyterian Church in Vandalia where he had served as an elder, deacon and trustee. Jim worked at the Western Auto Store in town from 1953 until 1965. he then began working at North American Refractories in Farber until he retired in 1986. Jim was a past manager of a khoury league softball team and he was also an avid hunter and fisherman. he enjoyed traveling and had visited every state except Alaska. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.Pallbearers were Ronnie Heaton, Jamie Heaton, Darryl Jeffries, Bob Jeffries, Tony Jeffries and Frank Jeffries. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, Mark Ashlock, Jared Schlicht, Chad Bakeman and Matt Joki.Memorials are encouraged to the first Presbyterian Church or Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia or the Community Loving Care Hospice in Bowling Green.
