One assignment had Karrer Middle School eighth-graders discussing will Smith, Jesse Owens, DredScott, Tracy Morgan and Rosa Parks last week.
Those names and more appeared on contribution cards crafted by about 300 Karrer eighth-gradersin honor of Black History Month; the students chose and researched two people who helped increasethe rights and experiences of African Americans.
