a planned biopic for R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass has been halted due to a legal battle with the late R&B icon’s son and widow for control over his estate. Pendergrass’ second wife, Joan, and Teddy Pendergrass II has been at war since the “T.K.O” hitmaker passed away in January 2010 from colon cancer. both parties have produced conflicting wills. Due to the circumstances, the biopic, which will star singer-actor Tyrese Gibson, has now been put on hold until the late icon’s family members resolve their conflict. “I was there during the last days of him being on this earth,” Gibson recently stated about his idol. “He told me himself, ‘I don’t want nobody else in this world to do this movie but you.’ At first it was an opportunity, now it’s a responsibility.” Film producer Charlie Mack began working on the project with Pendergrass before his passing and is not too fond of the conflict between the son and widow. “It’s kind of a rough time,” Mack tells Sister 2 Sister magazine. “I’m trying to stay as neutral as possible. We had a great relationship with Teddy and Joan, but there’s conflict between Teddy Jr. and Teddy’s widow, Joan.” Mack hopes the family squabble doesn’t turn Tyrese away because he things he’s the best man for the job. “It’s the role of Tyrese’s life,” he says. “It’s what Ray did for Jamie [Foxx] and Ali did for Will [Smith]. Teddy wrapped his arms around [Tyrese]. [Pendergrass'] mum and many others said, ‘Tyrese needs to play him [Pendergrass].’ ”
