1312598983 83 News Roundup: Ricky Gervais on the Emmys, Joanna Lumley for ‘Downton Abbey’ Guest Spot and the Beckhams’ New Baby Photos

Ricky Gervais at the 2011 Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais may have taken his fair share of crap for his caustic delivery at this year’s Golden Globes, but that didn’t stop Emmy voters for nominating the 68th annual awards show in the Outstanding Special Class Program category. and should the Globes indeed win when the Emmys air on Fox on September 18, Gervais would earn himself a shiny statuette as well. only thing is, he wants someone else who’s equally controversial to pick it up for him. Sounds about right.

1311334438 16 Film Threat Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction: An Interview With “cropsey” Filmmaker Josh Zeman

A few years back I caught wind of a peculiar little documentary called “Cropsey.” it debuted at Tribeca and kicked around in some small regional fests but eventually climbed it’s way into the bigger festival circuit and found placement at the Chicago International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, Woodstock and Starz Denver. Traveling in these circles as I do, I started to hear word that “Cropsey” was not only too freaky to be true, it also touched upon urban legends in a way no other documentary or TV show had done before. I was intrigued.

Giving in to the child in us

Once in a while we are confronted with a situation, one that tempts us to give in to the still raging child in everyone of us.

 HASHTAG:Killing me soft ly

I started my career as a print journalist with TEMPO magazine, some eight odd years ago. TEMPO, and its sister publication TheNEWS, had just emerged from a classic ‘roforofo’ under Abacha and was trying to find its feet. there was no longer a lunatic general trying to snuff the life out of the media as well as citizens, the dynamics of investigative journalism were changing in a way no one could have anticipated considering the suddenness of ‘Khalifa’s’ death. it was double jeopardy for a magazine with two such stables.

Dont mention the war: artists reminded that Hitlers no joke

Hipster Hitler clothing line no joke for some Jewish groups, who say Hitler was a monster, not a cartoon character.

THE Hipster Hitler clothing line was custom-made for controversy, with cartoon images of the dead dictator dressed in skinny jeans and cardigan alongside slogans such as ”Back to the Fuhrer”, ”Eastside Westside Genocide” and ”Three Reichs and You’re Out”.

Blake Lively lives it up with Leo, fumes over alleged nude photo scandal

1309004899 50 Blake Lively and Leo Get Hot and Heavy; Alec Baldwin Falls for His Yoga TeacherWhen Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio were spotted on Steven Spielberg's yacht in Cannes about a week ago, they looked too cozy to be just buddies, but since Leo had just broken up with longtime girlfriend Bar Rafaeli, a budding romance between the ladies man and the Gossip Girl starlet seemed too good to be true. It's time to set aside your doubts, because the Blake and Leo affair is on: the pair has been traipsing around the South of France together, sneaking in and out of hotel rooms and holding hands on the streets of Monte Carlo during romantic moonlit strolls. [AmyGrindhouse] some sources are reporting that the couples seems to be "in love" but I think it's more likely that they're just two very nice-looking, very wealthy young people frolicking in a land of white sandy beaches and azure waves without a care in the world. They're enjoying themselves and having a good time together, for sure — but don't mistake that for love. [AnythingHollywood]

President Jammeh has to admit failure of Vision 2020

By Sarjo Bayang, Enterprise Development and Project Consultant

All the time the issue of this fantasised Vision 2020 comes up, there has been too much lenience to the subject. Now we have to go purely technical to settle for the truth about failure of Gambia’s day dreaming hopeless, deceptive and crippling imagination; a vision out of focus.

When I first encountered Mary Chesnut as a starting point for exploring the American Civil War while an undergraduate at Harvard, I could not have been more fortunate. She provided a riveting antidote to the “fiddle-dee-dee” school of southern womanhood on which I had been weaned as a teenager in the 1960s. although Scarlett O’Hara was a beguiling screen heroine, Mary Boykin Chesnut was a flesh and blood Rebel, whose wartime scribbling brought to life intimate and important aspects of southern culture. since its publication in 1905, Chesnut’s diary has become compelling reading. For example here, in an entry about “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”:

The Portland Tribune, Jun 4, 2011, Updated Jun 4, 2011 (4 Reader comments)

a card was part of the Wall of Hope near Skyline School that sprang up in the days after Kyron Horman disappeared. a year later, reporters who covered the story and the boy’s family still feel the raw emotions of that sad day.
