Aretha Franklin looked great during her first televised interview since revealing in December she was being treated for health issues, but Detroit’s Queen of Soul didn’t reveal much more about what ailments she had been battling. “Well, a lot of things were said. I’ve left that behind,” Franklin said today on “The Wendy Williams Show” when Williams asked about Franklin’s health issues and reports of “abdominal surgery” during an interview that was taped on Feb. 25 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. “I’m feeling wonderful,” Franklin said. “I couldn’t be feeling any better than I’m feeling right now.” The 68-year-old “Respect” singer revealed she had lost about 85 pounds since the undisclosed surgery she had a Detroit-area hospital on Dec. 2. “It was gradual,” she said of the weight loss. Williams told the Detroit Free Press late Tuesday afternoon that it was a thrill to come to metro Detroit to talk with one of her all-time favorite idols. “I have nothing but respect for someone who answers you honestly while looking at you in the eye,” Williams said. “It was such a delightful conversation. she was just so wonderful.” Before she was invited to come to town to conduct the interview, Williams, who will Cha-Cha her way into the hearts of viewers as part of the 12th season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” has heard from Franklin on two separate occasions since the soul legend’s December surgery On Jan. 12, Franklin called from a casino hotel in downtown Detroit to let Williams know her recovery was going well and that she’d like to be on “a fabulous beach.” two weeks later, Williams shared a note she received from Franklin that focused on the singer’s desire to have Halle Berry (“Monster’s Ball”) play her in the upcoming biopic based on her memoir, “Aretha: from These Roots.” On Feb. 21, when Williams announced on her show she’d be visiting Detroit to interview Franklin, she described it as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” Williams said today that the second part of her interview is scheduled to run tomorrow on her syndicated show. “The Wendy Williams Show” airs at 10 a.m. weekdays on WJBK-TV (Channel 2).
