First Lady’s style becomes inspiration for reality TV.
In the same week that Michelle Obama became America’s First Lady, she also created a once in a life time opportunity for her hairstylist as he landed a distribution deal to star in a reality show.
Former Chicagoan Johnny Wright styled the first lady’s hair for the Democratic National Convention, her upcoming appearance on the cover of Vogue magazine, and several other occasions.
The deal with Style Network’s “Split Ends” is said to cover both a television show and a DVD endorsement. Said one producer, “The DVD will give viewers exclusive insight into how the First Lady takes care of her hair…every detail”.
Plenty of critics complained that Wright was only given this opportunity because of his close relationship with Michelle Obama but the hairstylist was quick to defend himself, “She has certainly emerged as a style icon and she has everyday beauty mixed with elegance. It certainly raises my profile, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that I’m good at what I do.”
The show is expected to air in the fall of 2009.
