Before you call the cops on us for being racist (FYI, we’re not), let us explain why we chose to make this Playlist of the Week dedicated to our fave R&B artists. It’s because it’s February, aka Black History Month! so what better way to honor our peeps than by jamming out to their best tunes, eh?!
Check out our 10 fave songs EVER from artists like Rihanna, Usher and Jay-Z, and make sure to tell us which of these is your favorite in the comments below! Cool?!
1. Rihanna, “Umbrella”RiRi’s got, like, 8 million singles so it was hard to narrow it down to one, but we think “Umbrella” is a must-have for any playlist, regardless of theme. the Glee version of the song’s not too shabby either.
2. Drake, “Best I Ever Had”This jam’s the best Drake’s ever had! It’s majorly old-school (we’re talking 2009 here, people), but it’s also majorly a classic.
3. Usher ft. Will.i.am, “OMG”OMG, we’re so in love…with this song. If we told you we didn’t have it on repeat since it came out in 2010 we’d be lying.
4. Sean Kingston, “Fire Burning”Fire burning, fire burning on the dance floor. How freakin’ amaze are those lyrics? and this song in general? That’s what we thought. thanks, mon!
5. Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind”Whether you’re a New York resident or never even been to the Big Apple, everyone likes ESOM. can you name one time this song came on at a party and you didn’t immeds throw up your hands and start dancing? That’s what we thought.
6. Kanye West, “Stronger”Like with Rihanna, there are way too many amazing Kanye West songs that it was a toughy to choose one. but we settled on “Stronger”, mostly because it’s inspiring and fun. and also because it came out before all that Taylor Swift VMA dramz. just being honest here.
7. Nicki Minaj, “Super Bass”No matter how many songs Nicki puts out in the coming years, we kinda feel like “Super Bass” will forever be our fave. and the video? Well, uh, let’s just say that it’s better than this one…
8. Chris Brown, “with You”“I need you boo. Gotta see ya boo.” this song is already about 4 years old, but never actually gets old, ya know?
9. Jordin Sparks, “Battlefield”We know Jordin’s technically only half-black, but we just had to put “Battlefield” on here. because it’s our fave JS song ever. no, wait. our fave American Idol‘s song ever. That’s more like it.
10. Beyonce, “Single Ladies”Um, does this one need explaining? no. no it does not.
Which of these songs is your fave? are you doing anything to celebrate Black History Month? What other songs should we have included on our playlist?! we wanna know in the comments!
