The Black community has seen many young black males become imprisoned and has always suspected that there was a large number in prison. It’s one thing to think those thoughts but the statistic are startling. Here’s one stat that just hurts my soul, “10.4% of the entire African-American male population in the United States aged 25 to 29 was incarcerated”.

That’s unbelievable! When a person goes to prison it’s almost as if they are dead because they can’t vote, they can’t contribute to society, and they can’t raise their families. If 10% on any animal population were to die off in any given year, the government would probably consider that animal an endangered species and have laws to protect the animal. Not to call Black men animals, but you get my point.

I don’t know who’s to blame and there is enough to spread around to everyone, but I would like to see a “Save the Black Man” campaign. I’m not making excuses for those who are in prison, but I am making a plea to save those who have yet to commit a crime.

What’s your recommendation?

I heard that the number has grown even higher than that. I used to just blame the parents but whenever a problem becomes epidemic then the government is involved somehow.

Man, JohnJohn if I’ve never agreed with you on anything else, I agree with you here. It’s so sad to see the startling statistics. It hurts me to see the Black community falling like that and parts of that is because the Black men are in prison. I support the campaign, “Save the Black Man.” Because it’s just like your saying, “If WE don’t, who will?
And one other thing, I don’t get it, why does the government let these men out of prison and tell them to get real jobs, nad start a new life but take away their voting rights. “If you take away my hips, how you expect me to walk it out?”- that’s what I heard in a song… (I Lied)

I agree all around that this is an issue and needs some major campaigning. But I don’t think it is the governments problem. The “new” thing to do these days is to blame the government for everything… Then they can bail us out of jail our houses and everything else. I don’t think so. How about we start taking responsibility for our selves again like our grandparents did and start making this a better place to live for everyone. So many people have become sheep meaning they just follow everyone else and don’t know how to stand up and do whats right and what they want to do. I see so many criminals that have moms and dads and grandparents in jail as well. How do stop the spiral effect???
