The country takeover of American Idol may have officially come to fruition last night at the American Country Awards. Season five winner Carrie Underwood was one of the night’s biggest honorees, winning Female Artist of the Year, Music Video and Single of the Year by a Female Artist (the latter two for “Mama’s Song”) while this year’s winner Scotty McCreery took home new Artist of the Year and inaugural winner Kelly Clarkson, who nabbed a share of Music Video and Single of the Year by a Duo, Group or Collaboration with her Jason Aldean duet “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” Aldean also cleaned up just about every award not won by an Idol alum, scoring Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (My Kinda Party) and Touring Artist of the Year.

Fox has ordered a second series of Simon Cowell‘s US version of The X Factor, less than half way through the show’s three month first run.

Even if there was nothing to their personal “relationship” besides media conjecture—and to be fair, they didn’t really do that much to dissuade it—Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will likely always be linked, due to their similar age, genre, and oh yeah they finished 1-2 on Season ten of American Idol. So when news comes down the pipeline that Lauren has sold 60-65K of her debut album Wildflower in its first week of release—not a bad total for a first effort–invariably, the number must be compared to that of Scotty’s Clear as Day, which debuted at #1 and moved nearly 200k in its inaugural week. Sorry, Lauren.
