The country takeover of American Idol may have officially come to fruition last night at the American Country Awards. Season five winner Carrie Underwood was one of the night’s biggest honorees, winning Female Artist of the Year, Music Video and Single of the Year by a Female Artist (the latter two for “Mama’s Song”) while this year’s winner Scotty McCreery took home new Artist of the Year and inaugural winner Kelly Clarkson, who nabbed a share of Music Video and Single of the Year by a Duo, Group or Collaboration with her Jason Aldean duet “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” Aldean also cleaned up just about every award not won by an Idol alum, scoring Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (My Kinda Party) and Touring Artist of the Year.
