I understand the intent of this article but disagree with some points you have mentioned. for one you are correct it is a good ideal to express violent impulses through written verse, however what hip/hop has done through this method is to create imposters who have no understanding of the black person struggle. Take Vnasty, a white Vietnamese rapper whos prolific and shameless use of the N word has many shaking their heads and fists at this industry. she was in the area when Slim Dunkin was murdered over a piece of candy by one of his own. yet has that action caused her to take a deep soul searching look within herself? No, she and many others like her have the false notion that hip/hop is a modified take on Machiavellian philosophy. Hip hop in my day told me to Fight the Power, be proud of who you are, knowledge is power, and never give up, yet today’s hip/hop is inundated with selfish, evil, greedy people, who have helped to glorify violence, and condone the mistreatment of women. back in the day when music sounded like music someone would fight you if you called him a pimp. Imagine my outrage when Snoop decided to go on tour with Charlie Sheen who we all know called his wife the N-word. My question to you is how can you write this article in full light of the Jay-Z’s who have helped spread the message that money not knowledge is power? there is a whole generation of young people that are poisoning their minds believing this philosophy and in now way shape or form to I find this version of black music conducive to black culture. People use to sing and play instruments, and merit was given based on talent not on reputation. Today it’s all synthetic rehashed beats with no originality so to speak. yes hip-hop has reached the world but what message is it sending out?
