N*gger what…
Nas’s new album is expected to drop July 1 and is titled Nigger. Yep, Nas took it there. Critics have voiced displeasure over the album title saying it is insensitive to the plight of black people.
I think it’s insensitive to the plight of all people. It’s sad to see one of the rap games best lyricist resort to an ignorant marketing ploy just to sell albums. Congratulations Nas, you’re officially a platinum “sell out”.

I have mixed feelings about this. I don’t think Nas was trying to be ignorant. I actually think he was trying to take the word nigger away from the racist people as if to say, you can’t hurt me with that anymore. I’m not saying I would do it but if that was his intention then I can’t dis him. And while I like his intention, his strategy was wrong. I write a lot of poetry so from one writer to another, express yourself.
I’m not getting into the word “nigger”… my mother always told me to be slow to speak and quick to listen, I’ll let the rest of you debate this.
But, Rap games best lyricist? That was a typo right? He’s probably in the top 5, but surely John John is the best!
Haha…lol….I wouldn’t call him the best that’s for sure but he’s “one of” the best.
As for where JohnJohn stands, I definitley appreciate the vote because ultimately the people should decide who’s the best and not the artist.
I hate when artist give themselves titles and forget that public opinion is the ultimate vote.
With that being said, I gladly accept ur vote…
JohnJohn I notice you get a lot of love and respect from people when it comes to your rapping skills. When are you going to post some music or a video of yourself? Show us what real music is.
Let’s be real. Nas is a lyricist and although he is good, he needs some help selling albums. He doesn’t have that personality that a Jay-Z or Lil Wayne has. This is his way of using “shock value” to get people’s attention. I guess he gotta do what he gotta do. I’ve seen worse.
Ignorance is hurtful to all races. I think if he’s really one of the best lyricist then he could have come up with a more creative way to title his album.
How can johnjohn be the best when Im the best… I think we need a new deffinition for da word… Here you go… Best: anybody who’s dumb enough to believe it… Haha.. Eh I got to give nas a chance on the album before I determine whether or not the album title is another one of his stunts but my best guess is contraversy sells records…
Pro…you’re right. Nas is not just another dumb rapper. He’s smart enough to know that he’s going to spark controversy and usually thats ok, but it a different story when you do it at the expense of an entire race.
Best: Surpassing all others in excellence, achievement, or quality; most excellent; Greatest; Most highly skilled…
I think the dictionary says it BEST! And there’s always that saying of Sylk’s… “The evidence shows!” But Pro, keep it up John John needs more fans, not too late for ya’ to become one!
He did what he intended to do…. cause we are all talking about it and now I want to hear it. :o) Although, words are getting less and less of a sting. You overhear so many people say, “Hey Bi*ches” or “What’s up my N*gga” that it’s getting a little harder to tell if they really are TRYING to disrespect you or not.
at the expense of the entire race…ok meaning what?insulted our race? whats new? Is this a new low? If slavery, segaration, MLK getten shot in da head didnt drop the bar low enough. I dont feel his album title is gonna be the event to do it. Its as serious as we make it at this point. My thing is lets hear the album. Maybe the title is not just a stunt but an extension of his creative work probably not but lets not jump the gun. You cant say he doesnt have the ability… its not solja boy we talking bout here, nas be on dat conscious tip and may have a good reason behind the title.

Little Pro, you definitely don’t sound like the smartest guy in this bunch. Ignorance is bliss, so I’m going to put an end to this before you convince others to go along with it. I don’t know why people think that just because wrong is popular that somehow it’s right. At some point we need to make a change. Someone has to stand up and say this isn’t right. It’s easier when those people are in the limelight. We need Nas and all of the other people in the media to take a positive stand. The bar will continue to drop as long as people like you are in the world. Obviously you’re money hungry and that’s all you know how to be. That’s sad because that’s probably what Nas is, someone who’s lyrics go untalked about most of the time, so to put himself out there, he degrades his own race. Hey, it may work, but at what cost?
you a funny dude man… I mean did somebody die when nas wrote the title… really man… how “Wrong” is It. and how do you know the album isn’t positive..Physic powers i imagine, the album could be so positive somebody may decide to stop using the word. Its obvious you dont do anything that has to do with creativity but run your lips. Everything is face value with you… smartest in the room probably not but for certain the only Optimistic in dis ***** fo sho…
Pro, ultimately I have to agree with you. I can understand how JohnJohn and Optimistic take a little offense to it though. I don’t feel like you’re ignorant to title your album “Nigger” the same as I don’t think you’re ignorant if you call somebody a “Nigger”. I think ignorant are those who take it so face value that they can’t put aside the title and focus on the message of the album. We don’t have to believe in the same reality because we are all different people. Tupac had the same controversy about the album cover of “Makaveli” when how he depicted himself as Christ. Still, many people, about 15 million as a matter of fact to date based off of album sells, thought the lyrical depiction and translation of why he titled the album “Makaveli” as well as posted the pic of himself as a crucified Christ was Genius. Like Pro said, he may just be, in JohnJohn’s words, pushing the perverbial envelope to watermark his point. It doesn’t make him wrong, ignorant, or other… at least until after we’ve heard the album.
Optimistic, not agreeing with your view is not a personal attack against you. You personalize your statement against an opinion, not the person. Where did you get the right to call somebody money hungry because their opinion was not he same as yours. You seem to keep your foot in your mouth a lot. But I guess you like the taste of toe jam, so keep it there.
Thank you guys. I was the first one to comment saying that maybe Nas has a different angle, maybe’s he trying to take the word back. I still think he might be like that. He hasn’t been worried about selling albums in the past, unlike most he’s stayed true to doing real music. He hasn’t gone on any “have a good hook and forget the beat” venges in his entire career, so let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. He seems like he’s in the smarter bunch and I hope he cares about his black people enough to not degrade them.
