Boyz II Men… ‘We ain’t like New Edition’
R&B singers make stern comment differentiating themselves from other groups.
The legendary R&B group Boyz II Men has been compared to many great groups such as the O’Jays and the Temptations, but during an interview, the members took offense to being compared to rival group New Edition.
According to witnesses, when asked by a reporter how the group managed to maintain a clean image and not have internal conflict spill into the public eye like other groups, one member responded, “We’re committed to our music and not one of us is more important than the other. We ain’t like New Edition and it ain’t no Bobby Browns on this roster”.
Several members of the media caught wind of the comments and laughs echoed through the room, but some wonder how the comments will resonate with the surviving members of New Edition and its resident trouble maker Bobby Brown.
Said one industry R&B manager, “It’s almost disrespectful…but then again it’s one Hall-of-Fame group calling out another. Maybe that’s what R&B needs, a high-quality beef. I don’t know about the other guys (from New Edition), but Bobby’s gone damn show respond”.
No comment has been received from Bobby Brown yet, but no one would be surprised to hear something soon.

On January 15, 2009 at 8:10 amI don’t think it’s disrespectful at all… Here’s how I see it: New Edition let themselves become more important than each other by branching off into these solo careers and subgroups. At that point, they were group members competing against one another in the SAME GENRE. Bobby Brown went solo, Ralph went solo, Johnny went solo, and then there was Bell Biv Devoe, so then when they came back together, naturally one person feels like they were better than the rest based on how they did in other ventures.
I also don’t think it’s fair to call New Edition a rival group. First, Michael Bivins (an ORIGINAL NE Member) discovered Boyz II Men (listen to MotownPhilly if this is new to you). And secondly on Boyz II Men’s Evolution album, they covered “Can You Stand The Rain”, clearly a tribute to New Edition. What they’re saying makes absolute sense, they all realized that no one member is greater than the entire group. Besides, they can sing WAAAAYYYY better!!!
