Song writer or beat maker…

Posted April 14, 2008 by JohnJohn

Timbaland was named ASCAP’s songwriter of the year. I’ve always respected Timbaland as one of the premier producers of our time, but as a song writer I can’t really see him winning this award. I ain’t hatin’ but I ain’t congratulating either. I believe an artist should be judged on their body of work. Can you name 5 great songs off the top of your head that Timbaland has written….exactly!

What does this say about the current state of music and song writing….is Timbaland that good or are today’s songs that bad?

PS: Whats up with the 50 Cent tank top…and the baby oil.

Real Playa’s Club…

Do ya’ll remember Lisa Raye or should I say “Diamond” from Playa’s Club…well her husband, Michael Misick, has some serious explaining to do as one of Lisa’s friends has accused him of rapping her in their home. Not only that, but Misick’s problems have compounded as he is the Chief Minister of Turks & Caicos islands and is under political pressure to resolve the situation.

I don’t know the details yet, but I can almost guarantee that this is gonna’ get U-G-L-Y if he ain’t go no alibi.

Alicia hits a different note…

Alicia Keys has gone on the record as saying the government created “gangsta rap” to “convince black people to kill each other.” Wow…now thats taking a stand. I don’t agree with her because I believe gangsta’ music was created out of poverty just as gangs were. But, I’m so glad to see an artist make a statement based on their beliefs. So many artist are too afraid to speak from the heart.

Most importantly, I want to know why it took an R&B singer to bring “real talk” back to hiphop…what does that say about our rappers.

Gun control…

The 2nd Amendment gives us “the right to bear arms” and for years the debate of whether we should be allowed to legally carry weapons has been argued. There are pro’s and con’s on the issue but when I heard the lady in this video give her testimony, it made me think twice about the 2nd Amendment.

Listen and let me know what you think.

Mariah lost voice…

Posted by JohnJohn

With age and constant stress on her vocal cords, Mariah has found it difficult to control the high pitch notes which she is notoriously known for. This occurrence has caused her to focus more on her overall singing performance versus “showing out” with high notes….It may improve her overall performance but there’s no hope for her dancing.

It’s sad to see Mariah lose the amazing voice we all love, but it’s like watching Michael Jordan get old….he couldn’t jump as high but you gotta’ respect the legacy.
