Well, The X Factor doesn’t do anything by halves. The first live show of the eighth series was bombastic, brash and clocked it at a bloated 150 minutes with countless commercial breaks. The marathon was made worthwhile, though, by one standout performance, two enjoyably stupid ones and some judgely bickering of which Simon Cowell would be proud.
