Lil’ Kim too fat to portray herself in Biggie movie…producers refused
Queen B’s request was denied with a capital “D”.
Hip hop fans have been patiently waiting for the chance to see the story of legendary rapper Biggie Smalls a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G.
The film follows the rappers rise to fame from the streets of Brooklyn to a rap legend killed in a violent death in 1997.
The selection of actors/actresses to play significant roles turned out to be a highly sensitive subject for many involved. According to casting assistants, Lil’ Kim was “highly insistent” on portraying herself in the film.
Kim reportedly told producers, “Who can play me better than me?”. Unfortunately for Kim, executive producers were more concerned with Kim’s current weight and recent cosmetic surgeries, “she looks nothing like the Lil Kim from 1996…people change in twelve years”.
Despite an obvious nose job and a few extra pounds, the female MC left a somewhat supportive statement in regards to the movie: “I wish nothing but the best for this movie because I will always have love for Biggie. Although my involvement was limited, I don’t hold a grudge”.
Kim’s role was eventually filled by Naturi Naughton and the film also features the likes of Angela Bassett, who stars as Biggie’s mom Voletta Wallace and Derek Luke, who plays Sean “Puffy” Combs, plus newcomer Jamal Woolard as Biggie.
“Notorious” opens January 16 in theaters nationwide.
