Wyclef avoids scandal
With Wyclef receiving millions in donations for Haiti relief…I’m glad he’s hired somebody other than his homeboy to manage the funds.
Rapper WYCLEF JEAN has moved to silence critics of his Yele Haiti foundation by hiring a new accounting firm to take charge of all donations made to the charity to help the victims of the Haitian earthquake.
The former Fugees star’s organization has come under scrutiny amid allegations the Gone Till November hit maker has personally profited from foundation cash. Jean appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s U.S. talkshow last week (20Jan10) to deny the accusations, but he admitted the charity had been "poorly run" by people who appeared to have abused their positions.
He said, "Is there a mistake in running the foundation…? Of course… Have I ever used Yele money for my personal benefits? No… I put money into my foundation. "But I do think it was poorly run and I think that we have learned from our mistakes, and, moving forward, I think we’re gonna be stronger than ever."
