JAY-Z is putting pen to paper for a new book – the rap mogul is close to signing a deal to tell the story behind his lyrics.

The Big Pimpin’ hitmaker, real name Shawn Carter, is famed for never writing down his song rhymes.

But he’ll have to do just that if he accepts an offer from executives at Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of Random House publishers.

According to the New York Observer, Jay-Z’s literary agent, Matthew Guma, is in final negotiations for a tome of commentary, in which the rap superstar will explain the thinking behind some of his most famous tracks.

The books is said to cover his thoughts on President Obama, troubles in his relationship (w/Beyonce), and feuds between fellow rappers and industry executives.

If the hip-hop heavyweight closes the deal, it will top a great week for Jay-Z – he was just named Hip-Hop’s Cash King in a new Forbes magazine poll with past year earnings of $35 million.
