John-John responds to Russell Simmons

Russell Simmons issued a challenge to rappers to have more “relevant or interesting content” so I had to accept that challenge.

“If I don’t…who will”

I agree with Russ 1000%!!!!!!!!!!! Hip-Hop and rap is at a crossroads. I have a TV show called Music Inner City TV here in Seattle. Learn more about it at http://www.musicinnercity.com To me the music 80% of the time sounds alike. The beats are not earth shaking. Nothing really standing out. Cats are rapping about there whips or rims or a female or getting down with a female or rapping about how great they are and how terrible another is. We need more Nas, more M1, more Paris, more Kanye more KSR-1, more Chuck D and Public Enemy etc. Look at the sales of hip-hop/rap. Besides West and TI, cats really are not selling like a few years ago. And it is not all the economy. It is the music. OG’s like myself and Russ and Diddy etc want a change in the music we love so much. We don’t want our music to go away like disco. But if it continues like it is now, hip-hop/r&b is going down. You can deny it but it is a fact. As Obama and Russ says IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE. Rap about the racism, the economy, black on black crime in the hood and stopping the violence etc. As Teddy Pendergrass sang “WAKE UP EVERYBODY”

Here I was sitting at my computer listening to this fly verse, hoping there would be another one… you left us wanting more!
I appreciate you JohnJohn. I appreciate your stance and your view. I wonder how many other websites took the stance you did. I applaud you, but with that said I ask you to continue and don’t just be a hot verse. Spread this message on more than johnjohnsaidit.com. Mean what you say and say what you mean. As a public icon you are able to do things I am still dreaming of, so do them! Change the world one post at a time!!! Hip-hop needs you, the Black Community needs you, johnjohnsaidit.com needs you, even I need you!

what Russel said was cute, but at the end of the day, its about the bottom line. the music companies go with what sells. commom makes consequences records, but they dont sell.

Love it. The challenge is now for those who can mass produce it.
