Fantasia’s financial problems force her to Color Purple
Singer Fantasia Barrino has reluctantly agreed to reprise her role in The Color Purple due to financial problems.
The former American Idol champ starred in the Broadway adaptation of The Color Purple from April 2007 to January 2008.
And now she’s preparing to transform herself into the character of Celie once again when the hit show tours the U.S., with a three-month stint at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Said one news magazine source, “Fantasia’s return has nothing to do with her love of theatre. After almost losing her home, she is in a financial bind and this is the quickest and easiest money available.”
Fantasia received plenty of negative attention by the ‘New York Post’ in December of 2007 for missing 50 shows and it said that she doesn’t enjoy the play’s grueling schedule and reportedly “complained the entire time”.
In this economy, she should just be grateful she has a job.
