Usher blamed for failed winery business
Business as usual for the R&B star turns to bankruptcy.
Ushers wine franchise which opened in late 2006 has closed, and former employees have spoken of the singer’s distant relationship with the business.
“We never saw him. I worked there for over a year and I saw him literally twice. I wasn’t even sure if he really was the owner,” said the former employee.
It is suspected that Usher, like many celebrities do, attached his name to the franchise in order to build publicity, but avoided getting involved in the inner-workings of the business.
Oddly enough, there were also suspicions that Usher wasn’t even a wine drinker, “Both times I saw him at the bar, he declined our wine menu like he didn’t drink the stuff at all. How you own a winery but don’t drink wine?” said the former employee.
The wine bar, bistro and wine retailer, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, did not reopen once the New Year rolled around and did not renew its liquor license with the Georgia Department of Revenue.
